One of the most beautiful times of the year in San Felipe comes around in April and May when the desert blooms, the temperatures are in balance and the waters so inviting. The Ocotillo is just one of so many desert plants that make the region unique and beautiful.

Getting a SENTRI Pass

If you visit or live in San Felipe, chances are you’ve seen the SENTRI lane at the Mexico-US border crossing. This lane, reserved for people who have a SENTRI pass allows them to cross the border far more quickly, and can look like a great option if you are sick of waiting in the border line for hours.

th

In order to use the SENTRI lane, every person in the vehicle must have a SENTRI pass, and the vehicle must have been listed in your SENTRI pass application, and have its SENTRI ID tags.

The SENTRI (short for Secure Electronic Network for Travelers Rapid Inspection) program works by pre-screening travellers to ensure they are low-risk in order to allow them to pass through the border more quickly. To obtain a pass, you will submit an application with information about yourself for the U.S. to do a background check, as well as have an interview and fingerprinting by a CBP agent to confirm that you are a low-risk traveller.

The first step in obtaining a SENTRI pass is to fill out the application form and submit it either online, by fax or in person by submitting it at a SENTRI Pass Enrollment center, though to do that you will need to book an appointment. (List of Enrollment centers in California at the bottom of this article)

The easiest method is the online option. To do this, you will need to the Global Online Enrollment System website. Once there, you will register as a new user and follow the step-by-step prompts to select the SENTRI program, fill in the application information, pay the processing fee (using credit card or bank account) and set up an interview for your SENTRI pass screening. You can view a step-by-step walkthrough of the process on the Customs and Border website here.

Once you have set up your interview (This has to be within 30 days of submitting your application), you simply need to show up at the interview with the required documents for processing. These include the originals of the documents you used on your application to prove your citizenship, immigration documents if you are not a U.S. citizen, driver’s licence, vehicle registration and U.S. insurance documents, evidence of your employment or financial support and evidence of residence.

If you are approved in the interview, your photo and fingerprints will be taken, you will be informed of the SENTRI terms and conditions and issued your RFID-enabled ID document (SENTRI pass). You will then pay the fingerprint fee of 14.50 and the system costs fee of $80.00, bringing your total fees cost to $122.25.

If you have more than one vehicle that you would like to use in the SENTRI lane, you can also ask to have additional vehicles added to your registration. You can have up to four vehicles registered, additional vehicles will be added to your registration for a fee of $42.00 each.

Once you have your SENTRI pass, you will be all ready to start enjoy the speed of using the SENTRI lane. Also keep in mind that SENTRI passes will need to be renewed every 5 years.
